Forest School
Forest School at Grayshott
Our School's Vision is rooted in the beautiful natural world that surrounds us. As such, it is vital that we give children time in our curriculum to be in nature and experience the beauty of Creation.
Spending time in nature has been proved to have a positive influence on health and wellbeing. Forest School has demonstrated this with children of all ages who visit the same woodland on a regular basis, in all weathers (except high winds).
Through self-initiated play, inquiry and discovery, children learn about the natural environment and how to care for it, how to handle risks and how to use their initiative to solve problems and cooperate with others. These life skills are transferable to school and home and allow the child to grow in confidence, self-esteem, resilience, and independence.
Forest School takes place a short walking distance from the school. Children enjoy developing their knowledge and expertise in a wide variety of activities such as; den building, crafts, bug hunts, tool use, fire lighting, cooking and flora and fauna identification. Different Year Groups do Forest School activities on a rolling half-termly programme led by our qualified and experienced Forest School Leaders, Mrs Ashton-Smith and Mrs Wilson.
