  • World Book Day - coming soon!

    Fri 14 Feb 2020
On Friday 6th March we will be celebrating World Book Day. The theme this year is ‘Share a Story’ and our day will be centred around this concept. Children are welcome to dress up as a book character of their choice. Mrs Tickner is holding a competition for the best book review. These need to be submitted before World Book Day (ie before Friday 6th March) and prizes will be handed out on World Book Day for the best book review – there will be a winner for each year group. The book reviews will displayed in the library so please make them bright, bold and colourful! In Early Years and Key Stage 1, we will be holding a ‘Share a Story Breakfast’ for children in Red, Yellow and Blue classes from 8.45am – 9.30am. Parents, Carers, family members are invited to come into class with their children, bringing in their favourite book to share in class.
  • Trickbox Parent Workshop

    Fri 14 Feb 2020
We will be running another Trickbox parent workshop split over three weeks starting Monday 9th March, Monday 16th March and Monday 23rd March from 1.45pm – 3.00pm each week. The course is called ‘Stress Packed Off’ and focuses on how to support your child with pressure, help them deal with worries and anxiety, create balance and learn how to relax. The course will be run by trained facilitators Mrs Forsyth and Mrs Clift and will take place in the Community room. The 3 week course costs £10.00 (paid via your ScoPay account), which covers the cost of the training handbook for you to take home. Refreshments will be provided. There will be 12 places available and these will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. If you are interested in attending the course, please contact the office on adminoffice@grayshott.hants.sch.uk. Due to the nature of the course we will not be able to have younger siblings in attendance. If you are in receipt of Universal Credit, and would like financial support to take part in the sessions, please contact the school.

  • Safer Internet Day

    Tue 11 Feb 2020
On Tuesday this week we joined over a thousand schools, colleges and youth groups to celebrate all that is fabulous about the internet and just how we can use it responsibly and safely. This year the theme was #Freetobeme; the children talked about their online identity and the benefits and disadvantages of having the freedom to be whoever they want to be online. The message about not sharing personal information on any online platform was driven home via a multitude of fun learning activities. Children also reminded themselves of the steps to take if they see something online that makes them feel uncomfortable or sad. As well as blocking and reporting users, children are taught to tell a trusted adult.
  • Cross Country Event

    Fri 07 Feb 2020
Some of our Year 2 and Year 3 children took part in a Cross Country Event at The Royal School last week. All of the children ran with excellent determination and resilience and made us proud!
  • Gold Class Author Visit

    Thu 06 Feb 2020

On Wednesday this week, Gold class were lucky enough to be visited Michelle Margorian who wrote ‘Goodnight Mr Tom’ – she is the author of our class text!

Michelle started by sharing the images chosen for the different book jackets that have been used over the years and how and why they were different for the many different languages in which her book has been translated, followed by telling us how the book was turned into a screen play and the challenges and opportunities the writers of the screenplay had in taking her ideas and making them come to life with images and music.

Michelle also spoke about the musical in which there was a great deal more made of William Beech's mother's character. She pointed out particular scenes that the class remembered and could talk to the children about why she chose to include them and what she hoped the reader would learn from them. She read aloud from her book and also shared lyrics that she had written for the musical. Lastly, she played the score which had been composed for the BBC adaptation.

It was a fascinating journey and ended in her answering the children's questions about her inspiration, her favourite characters and if she knew how big her novel would become.

What a fantastic experience; we would like thank Michelle for coming in to talk to the children and to Mrs   Spiller for organising the visit.
