  • Visit from London Mozart Players

    Fri 17 Nov 2023

Jo and Sebastian form the London Mozart players visited us on Thursday to teach the children all about the world of music. They learned all about stringed instruments. Purple Class even worked together with them to create a piece of music to perform in a special concert at the end of the day.

  • Paralympic Medalist visits Grayshott!

    Fri 10 Nov 2023

Today, we were incredibly lucky to receive a visit from Paralympic Gold Medalist Kylie Grimes as part of the Sports for Schools Initiative. The children certainly played their part, all undertaking a series of exercises which they had been very generously sponsored for! Kylie spoke about her incredible career, sharing her inspirational story of how she came to represent team GB at 3 Olympic games across two sports. Thank you so much to all our families for sponsoring the children to undertake the exercise circuit.  The total raised is currently £2044.00 which is incredible and there is still another week for families to add to this if you haven’t already done so. A huge thank you to Kylie and to Paula from Sports for Schools for delivering a memorable event!

  • Visit from SW Surrey Computing Hub

    Fri 20 Oct 2023

Susie from the SW Surrey Computing Hub came in to visit Silver Class today. She brought in some external programmable devices and the children were using terms like ‘crumble’ and ‘raspberry pi’ and they were plugging in ‘sparkles’ and all manner of other things that they understand much more about than I. Programming devices is a part of our Computing curriculum and the children had great fun building cars and teaching them how to move and turn using coding

  • Harvest Services

    Fri 13 Oct 2023

Two separate harvest services took place at St. Luke’s Church this week. The Juniors delivered a wonderful combination of music, poetry and prayer on Thursday, then the Infants followed up with their service on Friday which included them singing different harvest songs, Blue Class spoke about where different fruit and vegetables came from around the world and they shared prayers.

Thank you to everyone for the generous donations – these will be staying at the church until after the weekend and then they will be taken to the Headley Food Bank so that they can be distributed to those who need help.

  • Democracy in Action!

    Fri 06 Oct 2023

Democracy in Action! Our children went to the polls today to elect this year’s House Captains and Vice Captains to represent Sycamore, Ash, Beech, Chestnut, Maple, Cedar and Willow. With help from Hampshire County Council, we were able to make it a very realistic experience with polling cards and voting booths. Our team of polling clerks did a fantastic job keeping things organised. We even had a few proxy votes for children not in school and unable to vote.

The results are as follows. Thank you to Cllr Tom Hanrahan for coming in to act as our returning officer. Congratulations to the winners and well done to everyone who took part. All the candidates made great speeces and you could see how much work they put in.

  • Poetry Competition Coming Up

    Fri 29 Sep 2023

Thursday 6th October is National Poetry Day. In school, we will be doing a range of activities to develop their children’s appreciation of this form of writing; a form that can explore so many avenues of life and experience, free from some of the shackles of syntax and grammar. We’ll also be running a little competition for you at home, children and adults, so look out for an announcement on our Facebook page this weekend.

  • Grayfest!

    Fri 22 Sep 2023

I know there is a bit about this in the PTA section of our newsletter but I wanted my tuppence worth as well. It was a lovely day last Saturday, and it was so nice to see this event so well attended. It was a great atmosphere on the day and there was loads going on. These events are only possible due to the hard work of volunteers like our PTA and the many people who gave up their time to help on the day. As a school community, we should all be thankful for the time that people devote to organising things like this. A lot of money was raised which will go towards vital improvements in the school, not least more reading scheme books for the Juniors. So, from all of us, thank you!!!!

  • Forest School

    Fri 15 Sep 2023

We are delighted to be introducing Forest School for all children to take part in at different times throughout the year. Through self-initiated play, inquiry and discovery, children will learn about the natural environment and how to care for it, how to handle risks and how to use their initiative to solve problems. These skills enable the children to grow in confidence, resilience, and independence. They will enjoy a wide variety of games and activities such as den building, crafts, bug hunts, tool use, fire lighting, cooking, and flora and fauna identification. Green Class will be the first group to start. Big thanks to Mrs Ashton-Smith and Mrs Wilson for pioneering this.

  • Attendance Cup Winners

    Fri 14 Jul 2023

Every week in Celebration Assembly, we give out the Attendance Cup, which goes to the class with the best attendance for that particular week. Now we’re close to the end of the year, I thought I would share the statistics for attendance across the school. If you want to know where your child’s class sits in the rankings for school attendance, then see below.

    Attendance Cup Winners

    1st Blue Class – 97.5%

    2nd Silver Class – 96.4%

    3rd Red Class – 94%

    4th Green Class – 92.7%

    5th Gold Class – 92.6%

    6th Purple Class – 92.2%

    7th Yellow Class – 90%

Congratulations to Blue and Silver Classes for their great attendance this year. For the other classes, let’s try and boost those numbers in the next year. 90% equates to a day off every two weeks. Just imagine how much learning is missed out on in that time over the course of a year. That would add up to nearly three weeks of school time. We understand that children are sometimes not well enough to come to school, and there are rules around sickness bugs etc. to stop illnesses from spreading. We know that chickenpox or other ailments can knock children out for a good few days. However, the aim should always be for children to come to school whenever they are fit and healthy.

  • Purple Class experience Inventing!

    Fri 07 Jul 2023

On Tuesday this week, Key Stage 2 kicked off the day with a Game Show, hosted by the Inventors and Makers Workshop Leader. The children had to think about and answer questions on inventors and inventions that have changed the world.

After that, Purple Class set about experiencing the invention process first hand when they identified a problem in their lives and had to design an original solution. They worked very well in small teams, fine tuning their collaboration and communication skills as they moved through the 6 steps confidently. If you are in need of a more effective alarm clock to really insist on waking you up; a machine to clean up the oceans and playgrounds or maybe even a special hat that solves the problem of a ‘hangry’ sibling then you’ll find us in the queue at the patent office! After break, they became engineers and learnt about the types of machine for example wedges, axels and levers. They even had a chance to get hands-on to experiments with their own catapults and inclined plain device. It was a fun packed morning and complimented their ‘Cracking Contraptions’ topic perfectly. We’d like to thank the PTA and your cake sale money for providing this opportunity free of charge.
